“Ich bin ein Berliner!” – John F. Kennedy

A city I spent 4 years of my childhood and came back after 10 years to visit.

Alice and myself took 4 days off from our work to chill in Berlin. We went there with Flixbus from Rotterdam (about 30 e) one way. It was a long ride, but it definitely is the cheapest way. There, we stayed in Neukölln at my parents old family friends place. First day we would walk around Neukölln, the part around the metro station Neukölln Rathaus which is also my favorite part of Berlin, mostly because it is so multi cultural. I mean, whole Berlin is multi cultural, but this part is kinda ghetto, but like ghetto charm, but still kinda safe and also stylish cause a lot of hipsters took over the area, so it is really a mix of different kinds of people now. We ate at a really cool vegan place Kuschlowski where there were like 5 table all together and the waiters (2 in total) came to ask us if we would like to order something after like 10 minutes of sitting there, but i kinda love and find the i dont-really.give-a-fuck-and-wont-stress-because-of-you-bitch attitude really charming. Also, they had really nice fake-meat kebab there, one of the best fake meats i ever had. The best part is coming – the vegan kebab meal (also came with potatoes) and a beer were all together 10 e. As desert we took a ball of vegan ice cream at Meine kleine Eiszeit (btw yes, I like vegan food and no, i am not vegan, just vegeterian)                                                                                                                                           In the area we came across a lot of cool vintage shops and second hand book stores. Here is a list of some vintage stores my friend Denise from Berlin recommended: NeuzweiLet them eat cakeVivi´s BazaarHumana… Btw I bought a original Gianni Versace (prob back when Gianni was alive) 80s or early 90s black top; so cute and so expensive, but for Versace, my love, it is worth it.                                                     The next day we went to do some really touristic things, like, the Brandenburger Tor, also Pergamonmuseum , ofc the Berlin Wall and stayed in the zone of “Berlin Mitte“. In the evening we went partying. First we wanted to try to enter the famous underground rave club Berghain but we failed, as the door policy is mysterious and harsh, but apparently we did not fit the standards, also maybe because there were a lot of tourists who wanted to enter and they do not really like to make it a touristic place i guess. Anyways, no suicidal thoughts because of that, life goes on, Watergate was the club we went to. Expensive entrance fee, expensive drinks, but ok, nice view if nothing else. Also, there was a, Alice told me, famous dj that night, but I actually did not really like the vibe (not arty enough for me), so I was in a kinda party-pooper mood. Oh, I almost forgot another place we went out one night; Krunkerkranich a lovely roof top bar on the top of the parking lot of a shopping mall in Neukölln. To get to the top a fee of 3 euros is asked, but the view is fantastic and the atmosphere is so nice, good vibes. The last day we saved for Charlottenburg and the Kudamm area. Schloss Charlottenburg is a big castle in baroque and rococo style. Also, it is surrounded by a big park and gardens, so basically you don´t even have to go inside (although it is really worth it and beautiful inside) but can walk through the gardens and park for free (btw gotta pay extra if u wanna take pics inside).

Berlin is defo a place which is always going to be in a special place in my heart, although I find “berlin black” a bit snob and I never got so many irritant catcalling in my life in those days spend there (who the fu*k would expect that in fu*kin Berlin).

xx
